Yesterday (11), lawyers representing the rights of the girl have asked the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court to order the police to immediately arrest the three main suspects involved in the recent case of amputating the hand of an eight-year-old girl who was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital to receive treatment for fever. .Sri Lanka Latest News
The respective lawyers informed the court that the two committees appointed to investigate the incident have not yet submitted their investigation reports to the court because there is a great suspicion that the health officials involved in the incident were to be protected.
Therefore, the lawyers who say that they will be able to reveal many important information by arresting them and interrogating them, told the court to issue an order to that effect.
The lawyers have further informed the court that there is a large amount of evidence that the management authority of the Jaffna Hospital as well as the officials of the Northern Provincial Health Services Directorate suppressed the incident and proceeded to save the people involved in the incident.
At the time the girl who faced the incident was admitted to the ward, the head nurse was making a video call on a mobile phone and was answering it, as the committee has received eyewitness evidence, even though the nurses and other staff of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital were prohibited from using mobile phones, steps have been taken so far regarding the injustice to the girl. The lawyers had stated before the court that they had not taken it.
Because of this, the lawyers informed the court that the doctor, nurse and the male nurse who were in charge of that ward should be arrested immediately.
