Investigation Ongoing: Cause of Sri Lanka Air Force Training Jet Crash Yet to Be Determined
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The cause of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) training jet crash in the Wariyapola area has not yet been determined, according to Air Force Media Spokesperson Group Captain Eranda Geeganage.

His statement follows remarks made by Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake last Sunday, in which he suggested that the crash was the result of an error.

The incident occurred on March 21, when a K-8 fighter training jet belonging to the SLAF crashed in Wariyapola. In response, the Air Force Commander appointed a seven-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

During an expressway inspection tour last Sunday, Minister Ratnayake stated that the crash had been confirmed as a result of a mistake made during training.

However, Group Captain Geeganage clarified today (25) that the investigation report from the appointed committee has not yet been released. Therefore, he emphasized that the official cause of the crash cannot be confirmed at this time.
