International Travel Prohibition Imposed on Drug Importer  and Two Regulatory Doctors Embroiled in Medicine Import Scandal with Forged Documents

The owner of a company involved in the importation of substandard drugs by preparing fake documents and two senior government officials who approved it have been banned from travelling abroad. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

It is reported that the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court issued the order after the Criminal Investigation Department submitted a motion that the concerned suspects are ready to leave the country.

Accordingly, the company’s owner Sugath Janaka Fernando alias ‘Aruna Deepthi’, the Chief Executive Director of the Drug Regulatory Authority Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, and the Ministry of Health’s Supply Director Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake have issued the order against the suspects.

The Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the pharmaceutical company that is said to have imported a stock of 22,500 vials of immunoglobulin antibodies by preparing false documents.

It has been revealed that there has been a fraud of more than 130 million rupees.

Meanwhile, the Subcommittee appointed by the Committee on Government Accounts has instructed the University of Moratuwa to conduct a formal study on the information management system of the Ministry of Health and submit a report.

The Ministry of Health has established a large number of information management systems, but the subcommittee’s focus is on its contribution in building the health system.

The Communication Department of the Parliament stated that the Sub-Committee has also advised to prepare a time frame to establish the Swasta Information Management System which has been established in 723 hospitals across the island, in another 436 hospitals.
