A railway department official said that three people were suspended from work at the Nawalapitiya railway station for allegedly assaulting two tourists traveling in the No. 5 Podimanike train that ran from Colombo to Badulla. Sri Lanka Latest News

A group of Nawalapitiya railway workers have been suspended for allegedly assaulting them at the railway station yesterday morning.

It is said that Arrol and Harrison were attacked in a group of tourists who are said to have come from England.

Three tourists have boarded the Podi Menike train from Colombo at 5.50 am from Peradeniya station.

Nawalapitiya railway authorities say that although they boarded the train to travel to Ella, there was only one tourist with tickets.

When they were traveling in the first class, they found no tickets during the ticket check and asked them to get off the train.

But due to its refusal, the railway controller has informed Nawalapitiya railway station.

Someone has filmed how all the employees there come and beat these tourists and throw them out of the train.

The Nawalapitiya police have also been informed about this and a team including the Station Commander provided security to the tourists and sent them off on the next No. 8 Badulla train.

With this incident, Podi Menike’s train was delayed by fifty minutes and it left again at ten-fifty in the morning.
