Intelligence agencies have identified more than 20 opposition politicians who organized a crowd near the Fort Magistrate’s Court the day before yesterday (26), during the hearing of a case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe over the alleged misappropriation of public funds, the Dinamina newspaper reported. The agencies allege that these individuals interfered with court proceedings.
According to reports, intelligence officials are preparing to forward information about the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Among the identified figures are former Members of Parliament, former ministers, and several opposition politicians who are currently representing parliament. The intelligence agencies further noted that these groups were transported to the Fort Magistrate’s Court in buses arranged from Colombo and surrounding areas. Investigations are also underway to identify the individuals who financed the operation.
In addition, opposition politicians reportedly distributed milk packets, bottled water, and food items to the groups assembled outside the courthouse.
Intelligence officers confirmed that all these activities were observed and recorded in their official reports.
