The department also states that due to its effect, an increase in the current rain conditions of the island can be expected.
Rain or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the island today (17th) after 2.00 pm.
The Department of Meteorology states that some places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces will receive mm. Heavy rains of more than 100 are also possible.
Rain will also occur in the morning in the coastal areas of Western, Southern and Eastern provinces and Mannar and Jaffna districts.
The Department of Meteorology requests the people to take necessary measures to reduce the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
In the meantime, the Irrigation Department says that the people living in the surrounding areas should be very careful regarding the immediate flood situations in the urban areas.
The director of the water management department, SPC Sugeeshwara, said that there may be flash floods in some areas.
Meanwhile, Mr. SPC Sugeeshwara mentioned that the water level in the irrigation reservoirs of the island has increased significantly with the prevailing rainfall.
