Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a state visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is scheduled to pay homage to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura today (April 6).
Following the religious observance, Prime Minister Modi is expected to officially inaugurate the Mahawa–Anuradhapura telephone signal system, a project gifted by the Government of India.
Additionally, the newly renovated Mahawa–Omantha railway line is scheduled to be declared open this morning.
In light of the Prime Minister’s visit, Sri Lanka Police has announced a special traffic plan for the Anuradhapura city area. Authorities have advised the public that several key roads will be temporarily closed from 8:30 a.m. onwards.
The affected routes include the road from the Anuradhapura Air Force Base to Sri Maha Bodhi, the Hospital Roundabout, Harischandra Mawatha, the Provincial Council Roundabout, the Clock Tower Roundabout, and the Kurunegala Junction.
Furthermore, roads from the vicinity of Sri Maha Bodhi to the Anuradhapura Railway Station, as well as those connecting the Railway Station to the Air Force Base, will also be intermittently closed until 11:00 a.m.
Police have requested motorists and the public to use alternative routes during these temporary closures to minimize inconvenience.
