A special meeting took place in Colombo today between Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa expressed his gratitude to the Indian Foreign Minister for the aid and support provided by India, emphasizing the need to maintain the long-standing friendship between the two countries. He assured that a Samagi Jana Balawegaya government would continue to uphold the strong relationship with India.
Premadasa highlighted the significant contributions of the Indian government to housing projects in Sri Lanka and the Suwa Seriya ambulance service, stating that these contributions would never be forgotten. He also expressed his aim to establish an education system in Sri Lanka that matches India’s renowned educational standards and is suited to the modern world.
Furthermore, Sajith Premadasa extended his congratulations to Narendra Modi on his reappointment as Prime Minister of India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed great satisfaction with Sajith Premadasa’s contributions to bilateral relations between the two countries and is prepared to maintain close ties between India and Sri Lanka. Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to a strong bilateral relationship and the further development of this friendship.
Representing Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Samagi Jana Sandhanaya, Members of Parliament Professor G.L. Peiris, Eran Wickramaratne, Palani Digambaran, Rauff Hakeem, Niroshan Perera, and V. Radhakrishnan attended the meeting.
