125 new jeeps were given to the police as the first phase of the 500 jeeps to be given to the Sri Lankan police under the Indian loan aid at the Ministry of Public Security.

Here, the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr. Gopal Bagle, symbolically handed over the jeeps to the Minister of Public Security, Mr. Tiran Alas.

Speaking here, Minister Tiran Alas said that today is a special day for the Sri Lanka Police and he is happy to be able to get these 500 new jeeps as a solution to the lack of vehicles for duty in some police stations.

According to the demands of the public, these new jeeps are very necessary for the Sri Lanka Police to combat theft and drugs, and the police have not been able to procure vehicles for the past 3 years, and because of working closely with the Indian High Commissioner, this project was able to succeed quickly. Minister Tiran Alas said that he would also like to express his special thanks to the Indian High Commissioner.

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr. Gopal Bagle, said that the Government of India is very happy that the Minister of Public Security has been able to provide these new jeeps to the Sri Lanka Police to maintain law and order, democracy, and stability in Sri Lanka.
