At the request of the Government of Sri Lanka, a capacity-building programme for 16 Sri Lankan health professionals was conducted from 10–16 March 2026 at the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) in Noida.

Tailored to specific requirements identified by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the week-long programme delivered a series of in-depth technical sessions. These covered key areas such as health education and training systems, curriculum design, teaching and learning methodologies, assessment and evaluation, team empowerment through mentorship, and effective communication within multidisciplinary healthcare settings.

The initiative forms part of the expanding bilateral cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in capacity development. This collaboration has been further strengthened by the introduction of 700 additional customized training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals, supplementing existing programmes such as ITEC. The enhanced framework was announced by Narendra Modi during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025.

In addition, around 300 Sri Lankan civil service officers receive training each year under a memorandum of understanding between the National Centre for Good Governance in India and the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration. Together, these initiatives now enable nearly 1,000 Sri Lankans to benefit annually from India’s capacity-building programmes.
