India has expressed concern over the preparations for a Chinese research ship to anchor in Colombo and Hambantota ports in October. Sri Lanka Latest News

The Hindustan Times website has reported that the Chinese research ship ‘She Yan Six’ is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka next October and the ship will be anchored in Colombo and Hambantota ports until November.

However, the website has also reported that the Sri Lankan authorities have not yet given approval for the ship to come to Sri Lanka.

It is reported that the 3,999-ton ship ‘Xi Yan Six’ has started its journey from Guangzhou, China, and is currently heading south in the South China Sea.

The Hindustan Times report has indicated that researchers affiliated to Sri Lanka’s National Aquatic Resources Development and Agency or NARA Institute are ready to start a scientific expedition with this Chinese ship and will conduct a comprehensive survey including the South Indian Ocean region.

However, focusing on maritime security, the Indian government has expressed concern about the arrival of the Chinese research vessel and has informed the Sri Lankan government about it, The Hindustan Times website has stated.

However, a Chinese warship had arrived in Sri Lanka on the 10th and left the island yesterday (12th).

In August 2022, India also protested when the Chinese ship ‘Yuan Wang Five’ anchored at Hambantota port.
