A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to visit Sri Lanka shortly to discuss the third review of the country’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, as confirmed by Krishna Srinivasan, Director of the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department.
Srinivasan made these remarks during an IMF press briefing held today (01), where he provided updates on the ongoing support for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
“Following the inauguration of the new government, we conducted a mission in Sri Lanka, engaging in constructive discussions with the President and his team. Sri Lanka has made notable strides under the program, and it’s crucial to preserve these achievements. There is a need for measures that reinforce the successes reached so far,” he commented.
Srinivasan highlighted the new government’s strong commitment to the IMF-supported program, particularly in meeting fiscal and debt-related goals.
“A Sri Lankan delegation recently visited Washington to advance discussions for the upcoming review, and negotiations are progressing well. Our mission is to return to Sri Lanka soon to continue these negotiations as part of the third review process,” he added.
