An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by Mr. Krishna Srinivasan, Director of the Asia Pacific Department, visited Colombo from October 2-4, 2024. During the visit, Mr. Srinivasan held meetings with President Dissanayake, Prime Minister Amarasuriya, Minister Herath, Central Bank Governor Weerasinghe, Treasury Secretary Siriwardena, and other key stakeholders.
At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Srinivasan released the following statement:
“We had constructive discussions with President Dissanayake and Sri Lanka’s economic team regarding the financial and economic challenges currently facing the country. We emphasized the importance of preserving and building upon the significant progress made since Sri Lanka began its recovery from the severe economic crisis of 2022.
“We are encouraged by the government’s dedication to continuing its reform agenda. The IMF remains a committed partner, ready to support Sri Lanka in achieving its economic reform objectives. Our team will maintain close coordination with Sri Lanka’s economic authorities to schedule the third review of the IMF-supported program.
