Police have uncovered an alleged illegal television and radio transmission operation being run secretly within a high-security zone near the Ratmalana International Airport. Sri Lanka Latest News

The raid was carried out by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau with the assistance of telecommunications authorities, leading to the arrest of two suspects, including a Maldivian national.

According to police, the facility, located in the Attidiya area, had allegedly been operating under the guise of a travel company.

During the operation, police seized transmission equipment worth nearly Rs. 50 million, including satellite receivers, satellite dishes, computers, a Starlink unit, and several other broadcasting devices.

Initial investigations have revealed that the suspects had allegedly downloaded television channels via satellite using data obtained from a private telecommunications provider and illegally redistributed television and radio services to customers both in Sri Lanka and overseas.

Further investigations are currently underway.
