Responding to the news that Mr Mavei Senadhiraja did not know about his party’s decision to support Mr Sajith Premadasa, Ilangei Tamil Arasu Kachchi General Secretary P. Mr Sathyalingam said in a statement that the decision to support Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate of Samagi Jana Balavega in the upcoming presidential election, was a joint decision of the party’s central committee meeting. The General Secretary further stated in the announcement that Mr. Mawei Senadhiraja as the leader of the party was informed earlier about this decision and he was going to tell him about the further matters which were discussed in the meeting of the Central Committee later.
However, while addressing a press conference held yesterday (01) afternoon, Ilangei Tamil Arasu Kachchi Media Spokesperson M. A. Sumanthiran said that the Central Committee of the party decided to support Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate of Samagi Jana Balavega in the upcoming presidential election.
The Central Committee of that party met in Vavuniya today and decided after a discussion that lasted for nearly 5 hours.
Mawei Senadhiraja is a candidate who contested and lost in the last general election. He is also not popular in the north.
With the support of the Tamil Arasu Katchi Party to Mr Sajith Premadasa, the news that Mr Mavei Senadhiraja was not aware of the news was given a lot of publicity by the President yesterday.
