The High Commission of India has been facilitating bilateral collaboration in the field of research, innovation and technological development. In continuation of this endeavour, a delegation from IIT Madras, Pravartak Technologies Foundation, led by its CEO Dr. M. J. Shankar Raman visited Colombo on 22-23 September 2025.
IITM Pravartak is a Technology Innovation Hub focused on technology and entrepreneurship development, human centric AI and international collaboration in areas such as AI, IoT, and data science.
During the visit, the delegation called on the Hon Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, Hon Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and also met the Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy.
Discussions were held on exploring collaboration in building incubation centres for innovation, using technology effectively in education, skilling for AI, working on human centric applications of AI etc.
The delegation also met with eminent AI experts from Sri Lanka and during the discussions, various avenues of mutual cooperation were explored in the field of AI.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and the University of Kelaniya to jointly promote academic enrichment, training, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
