If the Finance and Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena does not provide the money allocated for the local government elections to the Election Commission within 7 days, all the opposition parties will go to the Supreme Court against him, said the member of Parliament representing the Freedom People’s Assembly Professor GL Peiris.

Mr. Peiris also mentioned that if he does not pay the money to the Election Commission as ordered by the Supreme Court, all the opposition parties will request the court to take appropriate action against him considering that he has insulted the court.

He also said that the international community will also be informed about this situation from next week.

Mr. GL Peiris said this while addressing a press conference held today (20) in Colombo.

He also stated that the term of the local government bodies has ended and there is uncertainty regarding the election.

The MP said that if the order given by the Supreme Court is not implemented, it could be a dangerous precedent in the future and said that it is unacceptable for the government to call three Supreme Court judges to the Privileges Committee of the Parliament next week.
