The publication of the book Economic Murder written by journalist Shyam Nuvan Ganewatta was done today at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall premises in Colombo.
Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, who spoke there,
“I have seen that in the past few days, certain types of opinions have been published that the government has violated the constitution by declaring that we will not be able to pay our foreign debt on April 12, 2022, through the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. An opinion was expressed that this was the cause of a struggle in the country and the burning of politicians’ houses. It was expressed by some people called people’s representatives. Because of that, instead of burning our houses, let us burn the houses of the officials, the central bank governor or the treasury secretary. Any kind of violence is something that we professional officials should reject. But unfortunately, there are public representatives in this country who do that. If the statutes have been violated, especially regarding the declaration of inability to pay this debt, conduct an investigation and take necessary legal measures with immediate effect. We are giving the best possible support for that.”
