The head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) has stated that the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel is triggering the world’s most severe energy crisis. Sri Lanka Latest News
Speaking in an interview with France Inter radio, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said, “This is truly the biggest crisis in history.”
He further noted, “When you combine the impact of the petrol crisis and the gas crisis linked to Russia, this crisis is already enormous.”
The war in the Middle East has disrupted shipping activities through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route used for transporting nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The latest conflict has also intensified the effects of the Russia-Ukraine war, which previously led to a reduction in Russian gas supplies to Europe.
Earlier this month, Birol also said he believes the current global energy market situation is worse than the combined crises of 1973, 1979, and 2022.
