Dr. Chinthaka Chandrakumara, head of the education department of the University of Colombo, says that it is observed that the prevailing hot weather has increased the mental pressure. Sri Lanka Latest News
The doctor added that although many people pay more attention to the physical stress caused by high temperatures, the constant weather conditions have had a very negative effect on the mental health of people.
“Citizens run fans and air-conditioners to control the unbearable temperature, and because of that, they have to pay a huge electricity bill at the end of the month. For citizens already suffering from economic hardship, it is not easy at all. Therefore, their mental pressure will increase further,” says Dr. Chinthaka Chandrakumara.
The doctor also suggests that if someone is suffering from mental distress, he or she should seek counseling services as it is important to maintain good mental health above all.
