Shereen Balasinghe, a community medicine expert at the Ministry of Health’s non-communicable disease unit, said that the age group between 17 and 39 years of age is at risk.
The doctor said that most of the reported heart patients have Ischemic Heart Disease.
Cardiologist Dr. Anidu Pathirana of the National Hospital pointed out that since factors such as diet, lifestyle and smoking affect the occurrence of heart disease, this dangerous condition can be avoided by eating healthy food, avoiding smoking and engaging in sufficient physical exercises.
