As preparations for a major election are underway, the government is seriously utilizing state resources and power for political projects. It has been observed that former local government representatives are being appointed as governors’ representatives for local government bodies.
This has been confirmed by the Governor of the Southern Province, Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, who has sent letters to former presidents and MPs, offering them several positions.
Below are two of the appointment letters sent by Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and the details of these appointments.
However, legal experts believe that appointing former MPs, who have been nominated for local government elections, in this manner is completely illegal and a violation of election law.
As a result, opposition representatives are preparing to take legal action against these appointments next Monday.
