Haguranketha police had to fire 38 shots into the air to disperse an unruly mob attempting to enter the station premises and demand the arrest of suspects! I Sri Lanka Latest News

More than 200 people have surrounded the Haguranketha police station for not arresting a group of suspects. Sri Lanka Latest News

The police say that a group of men and women tried to enter the Hanguranketha police station in this way last night (26th).

Despite being informed about the investigations being conducted by the police, the group behaved riotously, and further provoked people tried to break the main gate of the police station and enter the police station.

The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office has also stated that the police noticed that most of the people had been drinking alcohol.

According to the riotous behavior of the group, two police officers have fired about 38 shots in the air in order to control the situation by paying attention to the damage that may occur if they enter the police station and the life safety of the officers on duty.

After the shooting, the rioters avoided entering the police area and stayed on the Haguranketha-Kandyura main road and dispersed for almost an hour.

The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office announced that there was no loss of life or injury to persons in connection with the incident and that the main gate of the police was overturned.

Haguranketha Police is conducting further investigations to identify the rioters and take legal action against them.

In relation to an incident in which a person residing in Diyatilakapura area of Haguranketha Police Domain died yesterday (25) while receiving treatment at the Kandy National Hospital after being injured in an assault, the Haguranketha Police have conducted investigations and arrested one suspect for the assault and remanded him in custody.

8 other suspects involved in the crime have fled from the area and while investigations were being conducted to arrest them, the police said that last night, the concerned group behaved like this in a rowdy manner.
