State Defense Minister Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon says that the government has prepared plans to reduce the number of members of the Sri Lanka Army to 100,000 and create a technically qualified and tactically balanced army.

According to him, the number of members of the army is to be reduced to 100,000 by 2030, he said.

The approved number of the army is currently 200,783, which is to be reduced to 135,000 by the year 2024, Minister Thennakoon said.

The overall objective of the Sri Lanka Army’s strategic plan is to create a technically qualified and tactically balanced army by the year 2030 to meet all challenges in line with Sri Lanka’s national security needs.

2/3 by way of assuring national and human security. Thus, despite the approved cadre of the #Army, which is now 200,783, it will be reduced to 135,000 by 2024 and it has been projected to right size the strength to 100,000 by 2030.
