A senior government official has confirmed that orders have been issued to transfer a group of senior officials, including Director Generals, from 38 ministerial project offices previously operating under the Presidential Secretariat to the Public Administration Ministry Officers’ Pool.
According to the official, the 38 project offices have been removed from the Presidential Secretariat and will now function under their respective ministries. Meanwhile, the transferred officials will remain in the Public Administration Ministry Officers’ Pool until they receive new appointments.
The decision comes as part of an effort to streamline operations and address the surplus of staff at the Presidential Secretariat. The official emphasized that maintaining a lean workforce at the Secretariat is aimed at reducing government expenditure.
The transfer also impacts trade union offices, some of which were previously housed within the Presidential Secretariat.
The transferred officers had been tasked with coordinating key subject areas, including education reforms, trade facilitation, and free trade agreements. Before their relocation, these officials have been directed to hand over all official files related to their work to the respective ministries overseeing these areas.
A senior official at the Presidential Secretariat stated that retaining these officers was deemed unnecessary, as their associated project offices have now been assigned to the relevant ministries. This reorganization aims to enhance efficiency and ensure that the ministries can take direct responsibility for their respective subject areas.
