Government to Resume Central Expressway Construction from Kadawatha to Mirigama in August

The government has reportedly decided to commence construction of the Kadawatha to Mirigama section of the Central Expressway, which is currently incomplete, starting from August this year.

During President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recent visit to China, the Chinese government agreed to provide financial support for the construction of this segment of the expressway.

At the time, the Chinese authorities also expressed willingness to suspend the delay charges incurred due to the project’s previous halt.

However, it was later revealed that China had requested the project cost be converted into Chinese currency, the Yuan.

Although discussions regarding this currency conversion have been ongoing for several months, it is understood that a final agreement has yet to be reached.

Despite this, sources indicate that the government has resolved to proceed with the construction in August, irrespective of whether the Chinese funds are received by that time.
