Government is to increase the railway freight rates! Another burden on people! Sri Lanka Latest News

The fee charged for goods transported by train has been increased from February 1st. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

No. 2367/12 and the special gazette dated 18.01.2024, it is stated that the fees for parcels and goods transportation and other related regulations have been revised.

According to the new special gazette announcement, when parcels are transported, in addition to the transport fee, another fee has been charged based on the value of the parcel.

There is no value percentage for lottery tickets, medicines, tires, glasses, electrical and electronic equipment from 0 to 1000.00 rupees.

Also, the percentage of value from 1000.00 to 5000.00 rupees is 1.5% and the percentage of value from 5000.00 to 10,000.00 rupees is 2.25%.

In addition, 3% of the value of the parcel is charged between 10,000.00 to 20,000.00 rupees and 4.5% is charged for parcels above 20,000.00 rupees.

However, a percentage of 0.5% of the value has been charged for all other parcels whose value is more than 10000.00 rupees, which does not belong to lottery tickets, medicines, tires, glasses, electrical and electronic equipment.
