Government Faces Backlash Over Sudden Move to Cancel Local Government Election Nominations: Pafferel Organization Exposes Costly Game Plan with Community Committees – Sri Lanka Latest News

Cabinet spokesperson Mr Bandula Gunawardene said it was discussed in the cabinet to cancel the nominations accepted for the Local government elections earlier.

He also mentioned that the President informed the Prime Minister to start a discussion with the relevant parties to hold the local government elections in the coming year.

“The President informed the Prime Minister that he had accepted the nominations for the local government elections, and because some of the government employees who had accepted those nominations were in such a position, they would face various difficulties in their employment and other affairs, from time to time inside and outside Parliament, after hearing from the Attorney General and other parties. However, while commenting on this, the executive director of PAFRAL organization Mr. Rohana Hettiarachchi pointed out that the government is preparing to cancel the nominations of the local government elections in order to give the former local government councilors the opportunity to carry out development work through community committees.
