The government and the opposition have finalized arrangements to demonstrate their political strength by mobilizing large crowds to Colombo in celebration of International Workers’ Day (May Day).

Accordingly, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), representing the National People’s Power (NPP), will hold its main May Day rally in Maharagama. The main opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), is scheduled to conduct its rally at the Maligawatta P. D. Sirisena Stadium, while the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will organize its event at Campbell Field in Borella.

In addition to the main rally in Maharagama, the National People’s Power has planned to stage May Day rallies across 21 districts.

It is reported that the government has decided to organize district-level May Day rallies in an effort to regain public support following various allegations directed at it in recent times.

Meanwhile, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has also made extensive preparations to attract a significant crowd to Colombo, aiming to showcase its strength and mark the beginning of a new political phase.

Furthermore, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has officially extended an invitation to the United National Party (UNP) to participate in its May Day event.
