GMOA Demands Immediate Arrest of Suspect in Rape of Female Doctor at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has called on the government to immediately apprehend the suspect responsible for the rape of a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The association has warned that if the suspect is not arrested by 8 a.m. tomorrow, a strike will be initiated in the North Central Province.

Reports indicate that the 32-year-old female doctor had returned to the government-provided dormitory for doctors after completing her duties on March 10. She was reportedly approached by an unidentified individual who threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.

The Anuradhapura Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

In the wake of this assault, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) has expressed its shock and condemnation. A statement issued by the association strongly denounced the sexual assault, which occurred while the doctor was carrying out emergency duties within her office premises. The SLMA has urged the relevant authorities to take swift action to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice and ensure that appropriate legal measures are implemented without delay.
