We observed that doctors eligible to apply for the post-internship vacancy list were subjected to unnecessary pressure and threats, including warnings of removal from public service. There were also threats that their salaries would be withheld. Additionally, we received information that they were pressured and threatened with eviction from the official quarters provided at hospitals. Amidst these pressures, the new doctors found themselves in a helpless situation, facing significant job instability and fear.

The GMOA has been engaged in strike action over several demands, including concerns regarding illegal transfers. As no solutions have been received so far, the association resumed its symbolic strike from this morning (05).
According to the GMOA, the strike is being carried out in all hospitals islandwide from 8.00 a.m. today.
The ongoing strike by government doctors has disrupted patient care services in hospitals across the country.
Patients who visited hospitals for treatment expressed their dissatisfaction over the inconvenience caused by the strike.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the strike action taken by the GMOA is unacceptable, emphasizing that the doctors’ transfers have been carried out in accordance with the law.
