The former Minister of Foreign Affairs Professor GL Peiris said that if the government implements the Prevention of Terrorism Act, the country will fall into a big problem both domestically and internationally.

He said that by implementing this Act, nothing will be left of the country’s democracy or human rights. The professor mentioned that he had submitted several amendments to the Prevention of Terrorism Act and it was stated that there would be no rush to implement the Act until the entire Act was reviewed.

Mr. Peiris also mentioned. In two weeks, the fifty-first meeting of the Human Rights Council will begin in Geneva. On the twelfth of September. The Government of Sri Lanka is also preparing for discussions with the IMF. GSP plus concession is something that directly affects the export of our country. All these areas are affected by the implementation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

We are completely against this bill. Also, the government brought a proposal to the parliament to implement the emergency law. We decided not to support that proposal.

There was no need to implement emergency law GL noted. Now they are preparing to bring a more severe bill, the Prevention of Terrorism Act. An order was obtained to detain Wasantha Mudali’s student for ninety days. What terrorism he is involved with?
