A massive protest organized by the United Alliance of Port Unions against the government’s new tax policy was held today (23) in front of the clock tower near the main entrance of Colombo Port.

A large number of people participated in this protest, and as a result, Colombo First Cross Street and NHM Abdul Cader Mawatha were completely blocked.

The group protested by displaying placards with slogans such as ‘Let’s get Ranil Rajapakse, who is protecting thieves – who is taxing’, ‘Give it to someone who can do it and don’t sin’, ‘You will be happy – we will be taxed – the work site will be on the road’.

It was seen that the area where the protest was held was heavily guarded, and the police as well as military personnel were called to the place.
