Gazette Notification Sets Maximum Retail and Wholesale Prices for Local and Imported Rice in Sri Lanka

The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued a gazette notification establishing maximum prices for both local and imported rice varieties.

As per the notification, the maximum wholesale price for one kilogram of local white and red rice has been set at Rs. 215, while the maximum retail price is Rs. 220. For local Nadu rice, the wholesale price is capped at Rs. 225, and the retail price at Rs. 230. Local Kirisamba rice has a maximum wholesale price of Rs. 255 and a retail price of Rs. 260.

Additionally, the notification specifies maximum retail prices for imported rice varieties. One kilogram of imported rice is priced at Rs. 210, while imported Nadu rice is capped at Rs. 220 per kilogram. The maximum retail price for imported Samba rice has been set at Rs. 230 per kilogram.

These measures aim to regulate rice prices and ensure affordability for consumers.
