Minister of State D. Chanaka said that then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arranged to get a loan of 400 million dollars from the World Bank to eliminate those queues regardless of who appeared to be the father of eliminating gas queues. Sri Lanka Latest News
He also said that Mr Gotabhaya Rajapaksa arranged to get the loan amount approved by the World Bank on April 27, 2022.
He stated this at a press conference held yesterday (19th) at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party headquarters.
He also said:
Even the ministers who worked with us have forgotten who eliminated the queues. Sorry about that. Just like the gas problem, the fuel and fertilizer problem was also solved by the loan taken by President Gotabhaya. Also, the fuel queues were eliminated by the intervention of Mr Basil Rajapaksa and the money taken from the Indian Credit line. President Ranil Wickramasinghe yesterday also thanked the Indian Credit Line for intervening to settle the crisis in our country. Mr. Basil Rajapaksa did this intervention.
The journalists questioned the minister whether he saw a large number of people participating in the meeting of presidential candidate Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe in Anuradhapura.
Mr. Chanaka who replied said:
The same crowd was present at the UNP meetings in the last general election. But they got 300,000 votes from the whole country. By September 21, you can see who has the votes in the country.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has the best mechanism. When other candidates bring fifty to ten thousand and hold one meeting, they go from the village level to the ground level and meet about fifty thousand people a day. We are carrying forward the policies of Mahinda thought which led to the development of this country.
Our first meeting is on the 21st in Anuradhapura. Now some people have booked it so that we can’t get Salgado ground. We will let you know the location later. By midnight on September 21, we will know who the people like. It is certainly Namal Rajapaksa. Although the Prime Minister has switched sides, the voters of Pohottuwa are still with Mahinda Chintana.
