Fowzie granted bail by High Court

The Colombo High today ordered to release Samagi Jana Balawegaya parliamentarian A.H.M. Fowzie on bail in connection with a corruption case filed by the Bribery Commission.

The Bribery Commission filed this corruption case against parliamentarian A.H.M. Fowzie for allegedly causing a Rs.1.07 million unlawful loss to the government by misusing a vehicle belonging to the Disaster Management Centre. 

Parliamentarian A.H.M. Fowzie was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 with two sureties of Rs.500,000 by Colombo High Court Judge Nawaratne Marasinghe. Meanwhile, the Court served indictments on the accused and case was fixed for On March 15.

President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando, appearing for the accused, said the defence is expecting to raise preliminary objections against the indictments.
