Four Malabe Police officers have been arrested on suspicion of stealing a gold chain and a mobile phone from a youth near Vidyalaya Junction in Kottawa.

A Police Sergeant and three Police Constables were arrested, according to the police.

One Police Constable is assigned to the Malabe Police Station’s Police Special Task Force (STF).

The police have seized the three-wheeler used in the crime, as well as the stolen gold chain and mobile phone.

The incident occurred while the youth was waiting on the road opposite his sister’s house in the Weeraketiya area of Walasmulla on Sunday (20).

After approaching him under the guise of inquiring about a road, the police officers arrived in a three-wheeler and stole the youth’s property.

The three-wheeler was traced to a Police Constable assigned to the Malabe Police Station after the youth filed a complaint the day after the incident.

The four police officers are scheduled to appear in the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.
