Former President Wickremesinghe to Address Controversy Over Easter Attack Investigation Committees

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to make a special statement today concerning the committees he appointed to investigate the Easter Sunday attacks.

One of the two committees was tasked with examining whether the relevant parties acted appropriately based on the intelligence reports provided by the intelligence services prior to the attacks.

Former MP Udaya Gammanpila recently made public the findings of this committee.

However, at today’s Cabinet media briefing, Cabinet Spokesperson Vijitha Herath stated that the government will not accept the report disclosed by Gammanpila. Herath further noted that the chairperson of the committee, a judge, is a figure who has faced allegations of misconduct.

Separately, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and Father Cyril Gamini also held a press conference today, where they announced their refusal to endorse the committee’s findings.
