Former President Gotabaya’s overseas expenses : Clarification from Govt Info

Former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is not using state funds for any expenses he makes abroad, The Government Information Department said in a statement.

“All such expenses borne by the personal funds of the former President”- Government Information Department added.

The Government Information Department has issued a statement saying that former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will not spend government money on any of his expenses abroad and all such expenses will be borne by the former president’s personal money.

According to the announcement, the media minister Bandula Gunawardena, who answered a question raised by a journalist about the former president’s overseas expenses at the press conference held at the government news department auditorium to announce the decisions of the cabinet of the week, has been reported by some media in a wrong way.

In reply, the minister said that the former and current presidents are legally entitled to certain privileges.

But the government information department says that some media have reported that the government is spending money for the foreign expenses of the former president.

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who informed that the reports published by some media about his overseas expenses are incorrect, emphasized that all expenses are spent on his personal money, the Government Information Department also claims.
