Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne Arrested Over Abduction Case Linked to Colombo Disappearances
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and is currently remanded in custody. The arrest was carried out pursuant to a warrant issued by the Polgahawela Magistrate’s Court.

The arrest is linked to an abduction incident involving the disappearance of a resident from the Polgahawela area. Investigations have also revealed possible connections between this case and the abduction and disappearance of eleven youths from Colombo and its suburbs. Authorities suspect the involvement of a group operating within the Navy in carrying out these abductions.

Attorney Achala Seneviratne, who represents the families of the missing individuals, has alleged that former Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila has been criticizing the arrests and attempting to obstruct judicial proceedings. She further claims that the former MP is inciting racial tensions by asserting that the arrests are based on testimonies provided by LTTE members.

In light of these allegations, Attorney Seneviratne lodged a formal complaint against Mr. Gammanpila with the CID earlier today.
