Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana stated that when Sri Lanka declared bankruptcy in 2022, former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa — who held the portfolio before Ranil Wickremesinghe — had negotiated with India and secured billions of dollars in assistance for the country.
