Former Executive Director of the National Lottery Board, Thusitha Halloluwa, has lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), calling for an immediate investigation into a statement made by President Anura Dissanayake, in which the President allegedly claimed that Halloluwa had made a substantial investment in Greece.
According to a statement released by the JVP media unit, the complaint was submitted to the CID at midnight yesterday (04) by President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma and Attorney-at-Law Akalanka Ukwatte.
The complaint, filed with the CID, asserts that the statement attributed to Thusitha Halloluwa regarding a large-scale investment in Greece is false and has caused reputational harm to the President. It requests a thorough investigation into the origins and dissemination of the claim.
Furthermore, the complaint urges authorities to take legal action against the social media platforms and outlets responsible for spreading the allegedly false information.
Speaking to the media following the submission of the complaint, Attorney-at-Law Akalanka Ukwatte stated that prompt legal action is expected to be taken on the matter.
