Former Labour Minister Manusha Nanayakkara has filed an anticipatory bail petition before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, seeking release on bail in the event of his arrest by the Bribery Commission. Sri Lanka Latest News

The petition was taken up today before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama.

President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris, appearing on behalf of Nanayakkara, informed the court that the Bribery Commission is conducting an investigation into an alleged irregularity concerning the deployment of workers to Israel for agricultural employment.

He further stated that upon his client’s arrival in Sri Lanka from Dubai on the 24th, Bribery Commission officials at Katunayake Airport served him a letter directing him to appear before the Commission to provide a statement regarding the ongoing inquiry.

Accordingly, Counsel requested the court to grant anticipatory bail to Nanayakkara prior to any possible arrest by the Bribery Commission.

After considering the submissions, the Colombo Chief Magistrate issued notice to the Director General of the Bribery Commission, named as the respondent in the petition, to appear before the court and present his stance on the matter on the 2nd of this month.
