Sri Lanka Latest News

During her tenure as the Governor of the Central Province, she and her husband also used government land near Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya and later sold the land to a businessman who was a former mayor of Nuwara Eliya Municipality.

Instead of that land, the husband of the former Governor asked to give about one acre of land located in Ambewela area of Nuwara Eliya for development purposes. A request has been made. The Divisional Secretary has informed the former Governor’s husband that he has no legal right to give that land.

After this incident, he threatened the Divisional secretary over the phone that if the concerned land is not given, we would take care of what will happen after the 21st. The Divisional Secretary made a complaint to the Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police regarding this threat.

Meanwhile, Niluka Ekanayake, the former Governor of the Central Province, has told Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Nandana Galaboda and Nuwara Eliya Divisional Secretary over the phone to apologize for this incident and to forgive her husband. Her husband has also told the Divisional Secretary over the phone that he is ready to apologize for the incident.

Accordingly, the former Governor’s husband came to the Nuwara Eliya Police and apologized to the Divisional Secretary. He also told the police that he was drunk when he made the phone call. He wrote in the police book that he would never threaten in this way again, apologized to the divisional secretary and left.

The Association of Sri Lanka Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries also sent a letter to the Inspector General of Police last Friday (30th) regarding the incident of the threatening phone call to the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Secretary.
