The Director General of the Meteorological Department Mr. Atula Karunanayake told ‘Mawrata’ that heavy rains will occur with the activation of the southwest monsoon in the second week of May. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

He mentioned that due to the first inter-monsoon weather conditions these days due to the changes in the wind pattern, there will be a little rain in the evening in every province and there will be a higher tendency of lightning during that period.

The Department of Meteorology requests the public to follow the instructions given by the Department of Meteorology in order to avoid the dangerous situation that may occur due to the increase in lightning.

However, Mr. Atula Karunanayake further stated that the current hot weather conditions will completely disappear by the middle of next May.
