The LPL Match Committee has fined Sri Lanka 20/20 and Kandy Falcons team captain Wanindu Hasaranga $3,600 (11 lakh Sri Lankan Rupees) for the illegal use of clothing during the Sri Lanka Premier League (Sri Lanka Latest News).
Hasaranga has been ordered to pay this fine from his match fees received in this year’s tournament.
Despite all players being provided with team-specific clothing and equipment, Hasaranga wore a helmet with a different logo on the field. When Irish judge Rollie Black instructed him to remove it, Hasaranga did not comply, leading to the fine.
Following the complaint by the chief referee after the match between Kandy Falcons and Colombo Strikers, match referee Graeme Labroy officially informed the Kandy team of the punishment.
In light of this incident, the match committee has reminded all LPL tournament players to use only their designated clothing items. Additionally, players have been instructed to attend the post-match award ceremonies in full sportswear, prompted by Hasaranga appearing at a ceremony wearing sandals.
