Finance Ministry Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma has been summoned to appear before the Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) as part of the ongoing review into the disappearance of US$2.5 million belonging to the Sri Lankan Treasury.

According to CoPF Chairman and Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Harsha de Silva, the Finance Ministry has submitted a report of nearly 100 pages to Parliament. Arrangements are currently being made to distribute copies of the report to all members of the Finance Committee.

The Committee on Public Finance is scheduled to meet tomorrow, and Suriyapperuma has been requested to attend in order to provide further clarification on the contents of the report.

Suriyapperuma previously appeared before the committee on April 30, together with several senior officials from the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank. During that session, they responded to questions regarding the transfer of US$2.5 million from the Sri Lankan Treasury to a fraudulent party.

Meanwhile, during this week’s hearing before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena concerning the missing funds, investigating officers informed the court that statements had been recorded from 42 individuals in connection with the incident.
