Its convener Mr. Navin Tharaka mentioned that there is a severe shortage of doctors in all medical faculties.
“There has been a severe shortage of teachers in every medical faculty. There is no solution for this until now. If we take the three newly established medical faculties of Moratuwa, Sabaragamuwa and North West, the final year professor units have not yet been built in the Sabaragamuwa and North West medical faculties. Then those final year students will start that final year this year. There is still no plan to start those professorial units. At least there is no building related to Moratuwa Faculty of Medicine. Medical education in the country is going with many such problems… The government’s latest game is to establish three new private medical colleges. By this time, the government has made plans to provide clinical training related to them in public hospitals.”
