FIFA President Gianni Infantino has emphasized that Iran will definitely travel to the United States for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, despite the ongoing war situation.
A few days ago, FIFA rejected Iran’s request to move its scheduled 2026 World Cup matches from the United States to Mexico. The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
It was later announced that the request could not be granted due to technical and organizational obstacles. Highlighting the importance of Iran’s participation in the tournament, Infantino also expressed hope that a peaceful atmosphere would prevail across the world by the time the World Cup begins.
“Iran must definitely come. They represent the people of their country. They have qualified for the tournament, and the players are eager to play,” Gianni Infantino said.
According to the official match schedule, Iran is set to play two of its group-stage matches in Inglewood, California, USA, while the remaining match will be held in Seattle. The FIFA President further stated that the political and military tensions between the United States and Iran should not interfere with the sport.
