Farmers Set to Protest as Mahakandarawa Water Project Inaugurated by Ranil Today: Tension Escalates with Police Prepared for Potential Confrontation! I Sri Lanka Latest News

A group of farmers have started a protest against the opening of Mahakanadarava Northern Water Project. Sri Lanka Latest News

This water project is scheduled to be opened today (15) under the leadership of President Ranil Wickramasinghe and the Japanese Ambassador.

Our correspondents say that the protestors are entering from Rambewa town to the opening of this project by using alternative routes. The police, who are trying to stop the farmers from arriving at the venue of the festival by using alternative routes, are protesting the farmers and there has been a heated situation at the place of arrival.

They say that the army, police and anti-riot unit have been deployed and security has been strengthened and water cannons, tear gas etc. have been seen everywhere in the area.
